Starting from the same point, you’ll instantly notice the water’s increased speed and the heart-pounding anticipation building within you. Plan ahead, as there are only a limited number of releases on the Dead River each year, making this an exclusive and exhilarating experience you don’t want to miss.

Embark on your journey in a remote section of the Maine woods, where you may hear the thunderous roar of the river crashing 35 feet over the majestic Grand Falls. As you navigate downstream, witness the rapids intensify, with little to no breaks between them. Ensure you stay close to your fellow boats and keep a watchful eye on each other! The wide river offers very few eddies to pull over into, but when you do, brace yourself for a big rapid just around the corner.

The first of these thrilling challenges is known as Hayden’s Landing, where the day’s first photographer will capture all the action – from paddling prowess to white-knuckle gripping! Continue down the Dead River, encountering awe-inspiring waves and powerful hydraulics that will test your skills and determination.

Although this epic journey may feel endless, given its status as the longest rafting trip we offer and the relentless fun you’ll have, the end is indeed in sight when you pull over to prepare for Poplar Rapid. But be warned – Poplar is the biggest rapid you’ll face on this adventure! Conquer this final challenge and soon you’ll find yourself drifting into town, where you’ll disembark directly across the street from our base. No bus ride back, just a quick walk to a well-deserved lunch!
